What is metascience? Part 2: Institutions, networks and future priorities

Abstract

Metascience—also known as meta-research, research on research or the science of science—draws on a rich mix of disciplinary and methodological approaches to analyse, evaluate and experiment with research systems and cultures. The agenda for the Metascience 2021 meeting reflects the dynamism and diversity that characterise these fields. This linked pair of sessions aims to revisit and shine fresh light on a fundamental question: what is metascience?

Part 2 will explore how metascience is being institutionalised. As different branches and strands of metascience advance, how does competition for resources and recognition balance with the need for collaboration and network-building? What are the future priorities for metascience over the next decade?
