I study the social structure of science – including its production, communication, evaluation, and reward systems. In my scholarship and service, I engage with academic and science policy audiences and publish in venues across disciplines (e.g., Science, The LancetScience Advances, Philosophy of Science). I have collaborated with the National Institutes of Health and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation to study social disparities in their grant review processes and serve as a Coordinating Committtee Member for the Transparency and Openness Promotion Guidelines. My work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Mellon and Woodrow Wilson Foundations (through a Career Enhancement Fellowship) and has been covered by the Chronicle of Higher Education, STAT, Chemistry World, and Diverse Issues in Higher Education. I’m grateful to have received First Prize for most creative submission to NIH’s Peer Review Challenge (with Elena Erosheva).
