Dr. Tiokhin is a meta-scientist who studies the forces that shape how scientists do their work and make inferences from the populations that they study. Much of his research focuses on how incentive structures affect scientific efficiency and reliability, and how it is possible to improve the recognition and reward structures in science. Tiokhin has a long-standing interest in evolutionary approaches to human behavior and in formal modeling as a tool to improve theory in the social sciences.

Tiokhin’s work is inherently interdisciplinary, utilizing a range of approaches (theoretical models, lab experiments, cross-cultural studies) and drawing on research from diverse disciplines (psychology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, economics). Currently, Tiokhin is postdoctoral researcher working with Daniel Lakens at the Eindhoven University of Technology. This 4-year position is funded by a VIDI grant from NWO, and is part of a larger project to improve the reliability and efficiency of psychological science.
